UK weather: Rush hour slippery roads WARNING as snow continues to pummel Britain

SNOW will continue to pummel the UK on Thursday before milder air heats up dire temperatures as the weekend approaches, the Met Office has claimed.

Commuters are being urged to travel with care in the morning as risks of ice are possible

Commuters are being urged to travel with care in the morning as risks of ice are possible across the country.

Meteorologist Alex Deakin said: “It could be slippery on the roads for the morning rush hour.

“Showers through Thursday will be mostly across the west and they will chiefly be of rain at low levels.

“But again, over the hills of northern England, western Scotland, we will see further snow.

“Eastern areas will have a dry and bright Thursday with plenty of sunshine, but there will still be a chilly wind blowing and that wind will be particularly noticeable again across parts of south Wales and west England.

“Temperature wise we are still below average and it will feel cold, especially that wind.

“But as I said at least many eastern areas will have a dry, bright and sunny day.”

Thursday evening could see the risk of further snow that has the chance of covering lower levels across England and Wales - those travelling home from work could experience travel chaos.

Mr Deakin added: “It will stay largely clear through Thursday evening but more showers will push in across England and Wales where we could again start to see a bit more snow even to low levels, just bear that in mind for Thursday evening’s rush hour.

“Then the weather starts to turn a little bit more simple if you like as we go into Friday.

“The wind is coming straight down from the north, a few showers on the east coast, one or two in the west but for most Friday is dry.

“But it will start frosty and with the winds coming down from the north it will still feel cold, but most of us will see some sunshine on Friday.”

As the weekend approaches, milder air is set to make its way across the country that halts any chance of further snowfall.

Mr Deakin went on: “That will lead into a cold night on Friday night, a cold frosty start to the weekend but then a change - gradually turning cloudier and very slowly turning a bit milder through this weekend.”

Design 911 are encouraging car owners to be aware of the risks imposed by winter and have provided travellers with a list of checks that will allow for the safest journeys during a period riddled with snow, ice and freezing temperatures.

Regular servicing, making sure engine coolant is topped up and tyre checks are some of the most important tasks a car owner can perform during winter to make sure they not responsible for travel chaos on the roads.

Checking the battery, exterior lights, screen wash and seat belts are also labelled as vital maintenance tasks, especially during an intensely cold period.
