'You've weakened the Prime Minister over Brexit!' Ferrari GRILLS key Tory Remainer

LBC presenter Nick Ferrari grilled former Attorney General Dominic Grieve accusing him of weakening the Prime Minister in the eyes of Brussels with his amendment to the Brexit bill.

Nick Ferrari, LBC presenter, shut down Tory MP Dominic Grieve over Wednesday’s parliamentary vote to amend the withdrawal bill.

The presenter accused Mr Grieve of weakening Prime Minister as she arrived in Brussels today to discuss a post-Brexit trade deal with the EU.

Mr Ferrari said: “Brussels is negotiating now not with David Davis and Theresa May but with the whole of the House of Commons.”

The Tory MP disagreed with the radio host and said: “I don’t agree with that. The Government ultimately carries the negotiations and I don’t think last night’s events in any way diminished the Prime Minister’s ability to get a good deal in our Brussels’ negotiations.

“Actually rather the reverse. I think that an outbreak of sanity in Westminster in respect to how Brexit should be carried out and an end to a drift which has been tending to give the impression that the UK is about to take a whole series of rather dangerous shortcuts in leaving is in fact at our advantage.”

Nick Ferrari fired back with: “How can it possibly be to her advantage if she arrives in Brussels today at less than a week from seeming to manage to pull something together with that deal on Friday?"

He added: “She’s now surely weakened and exposed. Any deal she does now has to get past a vote in the Commons.

“This is like a divorce where you had to get your in-laws to agree to the terms.”

Mr Grieve replied: “I have to disagree with you. There is a very big majority in Parliament to support the Prime Minister right across the house.”

The House of Commons voted on Wednesday on a series of amendments to the Brexit withdrawal bill.

Dominic Grieve had campaigned in the week before the vote for an amendment that would give MPs the right to vote on any changes to the final Brexit deal at the end of the negotiations.

The Government was defeated with a majority of four MPs.
