GAYA: With the Magadh University (MU) authorities agreeing to refer the dispute regarding absorption of daily wage and contractual employees to the state government for final resolution and keep them in service till January 31, 2018, the 26 days long impasse between the university administration and employees union came to an end on Thursday.

An agreement between the university authorities and union leaders was reached after marathon bargaining for more than four hours. The final decision on contractual employees will be taken as per government's directive. With both sides softening their respective stands, the agreement was possible. Whereas the union relented on its demand for direct service regularisation of contract employees, varsity authorities temporarily withdrew the termination order.

VC Prof Qamar Ahsan said, "Tthe daily wage and contractual employees will have to submit their appointment letters and other documents in the registrar's office on or before December 23 and the same will be forwarded to the state government for necessary guidelines. The university will, in the light of government order, resolve the contractual employment issue by January 31, 2018."

On the issue of compassionate ground appointments and promotion, the university authorities have agreed for early completion of the required process. Varsity authorities also agreed to get staff quarters repaired early by state government agencies. As per the terms of the agreement, a formal announcement will be made by pro-VC KN Paswan in the presence of all striking employees on Friday morning.
