Speculation surrounding the Brazilian's future dominated headlines throughout the summer, as the Catalan club had three bids rejected, despite him handing in a transfer request.
The La Liga giants are highly likely to go back in for the 25-year-old when the transfer window opens next month, as they desperately seek an injection of creativity in their midfield.
Barca are also seeking a centre-back, with Argentine veteran Javier Mascherano reportedly on his way out.

"I think they would be two important reinforcements to the squad," he said.

"If the club wants to strengthen those positions, it should be with players that can be prepared to withstand the pressure of a club like this, and they would be two big signings.
"But nothing has happened, so it's difficult."
Barcelona are currently five points clear at the top of La Liga and they’ll be hoping to bolster their squad in order to win back the title that rivals Real Madrid took last season.
They’ll also be eyeing a Champions League win, but they must get past Antonio Conte’s Chelsea first.

It’s the seventh time the two sides have been drawn together in the competition and Iniesta is relishing another clash against the Premier League side.
He added: “The first thing I thought was that it was a hard and complicated match against a very powerful team in every way.
"Some very nice memories, the best I've ever lived, came to mind."
The two sides go head to head in the last 16, with the first leg taking place in mid-February.
