Container freight movement between India and Bangladesh on railway is awaiting protocol clearances from the neighbouring country, a top official of Container Corporation of India said today.
The logistics major had signed an MoU with Container Company of Bangladesh Ltd (CCBL) in April last year.
"All clearances are in place from the Indian end. We are awaiting container protocol from Bangladesh. Once it is established, container movement from India to Bangladesh will start happening," CONCOR chairman and managing director V Kalyana Rama said at a CII logistics colloquium here.
He said direct movement of containerised cargo by train would slash trade costs, and make the exercise a lot more organised.
CONCOR will provide training and other required support system to CCBL for the development and operations of Container Trains and Inland Container Depots (ICDs).
Kalyana Rama said the company has also decided to expand container terminals stations in India to 100 from 75, by 2020.
