BHUBANESWAR: Opposition Congress and BJP disrupted the proceedings of the Assembly over farmers’ issue for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.

As soon as the House assembled at 10.30 am to take up the question hour business, Deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi asked Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout to reply to a question of Chiranjeev Biswal, Congress on behalf of Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Surya Narayan Patro.

But, before the Minister could reply, Congress members led by Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati rushed into the well, shouted slogans against the State Government for its anti-farmer policy and demanded a discussion on mismanagement of procurement of paddy, suspending the question hour.

Soon BJP members also joined them. Unable to run the House, Deputy Speaker adjourned the Assembly till noon. Normalcy returned to the House in the second half when a government sponsored motion was taken up for discussion.
