You’ve probably heard by now that the Bay Area is one of the country’s most dynamic and prolific metropolitan areas for the creation of new plays. But if you haven’t yet climbed aboard that train, Playwrights Foundation’s “FlashPlays!” offers one of the most efficient ways to introduce yourself to a swath of the region’s playwrights.

More than 40 local writers contribute “micro plays” (shorts lasting approximately 1 minute each) that together offer a multifaceted look at San Francisco in 2017. “The idea of ‘FlashPlays!’” says artistic director Amy Mueller in a statement, “is to create a theatrical composite of our beloved city in short flashes of insight, recognition, revelation, anger, despair and ebullience that reflect us here in this moment.”

Among the writers are Dipika Guha, Michael Gene Sullivan, Prince Gomolvilas, Lynne Kaufman and Karen Macklin; nine directors and more than 60 actors bring their work alive.
