It snowed. Now it can be Christmas.

A generous dusting of snow makes the city's lighting displays shine brighter. For sure, it makes the decorations in Pere Marquette look a little less ragged, a little more festive.

Let's promise to make our personal spirits bright. Here's how:

BUT FIRST, DESSERT

Dining critic Carol Deptolla suggests any of the sweet treats in this list of 2017's best desserts from Bacchus to The Union House.

THEN A MOVIE

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" opens. You already know that, I'm sure. Or you can get all retro with 1942's "Holiday Inn" at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Times Cinema.

OFFICE PARTY

No copiers will be harmed during the Iron Horse Hotel "Office Christmas Party" from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Come for the meatballs in the free potluck buffet but stay for the cocktail bar. Bring a gift for the white elephant gift exchange.

SERENITY NOW

The Urban Ecology Center offers much needed time in nature by offering its Candlelight Walk for Adults and Teens at Riverside Park on Saturday. Only a few slots remain.

ON YOUR TOES

It's not the holiday season without "A Christmas Carol." It's been a family affair for some. See also, "The Nutcracker."  And "Black Nativity."

BE OF GOOD BEER

Good City Brewing hosts Density Day, the release day for its bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout on Saturday. Get there at 10 a.m. It's Milwaukee. Of course there's more.

BOOKS AND BREW

Come visit with my colleague Jim Higgins and me at 7 p.m. tonight at Cafe Hollander where we'll talk books and beer. Coincidence that he wrote a book on Wisconsin's literary luminaries and I wrote a book on beer? Ha. Thank you, Boswell Book Co., for hosting.
