Local residents of Ghena Gram Panchayat of Tehri district were given training on water quality testing in a two- day workshop. This training programme was held by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST); Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan and DAV (PG) College, Dehradun, said Dr Prashant Singh district coordinator of UCOST.
In his address to the gathering, UCOST director general Dr Rajendra Dobhal said that drinking water sources in the mountainous regions too should be tested from time to time. Harmful elements like domestic sewage waste water, hospital waste and garbage thrown by locals or visitors near water bodies contaminates the waters. Through field testing kit, villagers would be able to conduct test of eight important water quality standards include iron, chloride, PH, Nitrate and other aspects.
