Former Briar Woods and current Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley is one of a large number of D.M.V. natives playing in a bowl game this season. (Photo by Richard A. Lipski/The Washington Post).

Some D.M.V. natives, like Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley or Clemson linebacker Dorian Daniel, are among the most recognizable figures in college football. Others, like Utah State linemen McCord and Connor Meyers, are not so well-known.

Nevertheless, if you sit down to watch a bowl game over the next couple of weeks, chances are a local player is suited up. If you find yourself wondering if that cornerback from Oklahoma is the same one you watched in the Turkey Bowl a few years back, let this list reassure you — that is H.D. Woodson alum Parnell Motley playing for the Sooners.

Out of the 80 teams playing in a bowl game, 49 have a player from The Post’s coverage area: Montgomery, Howard, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties in Maryland, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington Counties in Virginia, including cities of Falls Church and Alexandria, and all of the District of Columbia. DeMatha leads the way with 14 players on the list.

These are the players participating in a bowl game with a local high school listed on their college athletic department’s roster. All stats are from the 2017 season.
