Jah Formula finds solution in music
Dancehall artiste Jah Formula has compared his decision to pursue music to that of a religious calling.
"I have a message to bring to the people of Jamaica that Jah is the formula. He is everywhere. That is why I called myself Jah Formula, because there is only one Jehovah, and the only formula for the world is peace and love," he said.
Jah Formula is currently gaining recognition in the streets for a pair of songs, Love This Way and The Struggle is Real, that he said are generating airplay on local FM radio.
"Right now, things are looking up. The new year 2018 is going to be a good look," he said.
Born Delano Dwight Dixon on March 5, 1971, he was raised in the Swallowfield area of St Andrew. As a teenager, he attended St Andrew Technical High School where he had two vices — playing football for his local Swallowfield team, and music.
He began writing songs at a young age, and when he left school, he began writing and producing songs with a few young Miami-based musicians. In 2011, he launched his own record label Yard Motivators, continuing to write, produce and sing his own lyrics. He released his first song, Baby Don't Worry, that same year.
Jah Formula's philosophy is to live a natural way of life, and his latest releases reflect that ethos of living.
