Five lifters capture gold medals

PALMETTO

With five lifters receiving gold medals, the Bayshore High girls weightlifting team captured the Manatee County championships, scoring 56 points to 48 for runner-up Manatee High on Wednesday night at Palmetto High School.

Winners for the Bruins were Savannah Dilbhay, with an 80-pound bench press, 85-pound clean and jerk for a 165 total in the 101-pound weight class, Allie Connell (100-110-210) at 129, Nicole Citera (125-160-285) at 139, Julianna Barkus (135-145-280) at 154 and Elyssa Grieco (125-125-250) at 199.

Manatee received a pair of victories from Brianna Thornton at 110 with a 95-120-215 and Tessa Marquette at 129 with a 160-175-335.

Braden River’s Jade Moy won 119 with a 120-125-245, and Fayth Walker took the unlimited class with 195-160-355 for the Pirates.

Bradenton Christian’s Skyler Matelau prevailed at 169 with a 110-190-300.

Lakewood Ranch’s Madison Koczersut captured 183 with a 115-150-265.

Rounding out the team scoring, Braden River was third with 36, followed by Southeast (28), Palmetto (22), Lakewood Ranch (22) and Bradenton Christian (7).
