Over 1,5 million visitors from around the world set foot in Namibia in 2016.
This was revealed by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, at the launch of the 2016 tourist statistics in Windhoek, on Thursday.
The minister says that this figure increased by 3,7% from 2015.
He said most visitors came from Angola, South Africa, Zambia, Germany, Botswana, United Kingdom, United States and France.
Shifeta said some challenges affecting the tourism sector are poor customer service, absence of proper marketing strategies, inadequate training of people and a lack of accommodation, among others.
He however added that the ministry will strive by all means to create a conducive environment for the tourism sector.
