Blue Bottle Coffee, the Oakland specialty coffee brand with dreams of global expansion, is now selling coffee grown in California.
The company on Thursday unveiled its first California-grown coffee: a Gesha and Caturra blend produced by Frinj Coffee, the new business from Good Land Organics in Goleta. Blue Bottle is selling the beans in 100-gram containers priced at $65.
Good Land Organics was founded by Jay Ruskey, a longtime advocate of California-grown coffee and its viability. In a joint coffee-related project with UC Davis, Ruskey helped orchestrate the first genome sequencing of Caffea arabica this year, an achievement researchers think could lead to the creation of highly adaptable coffee varieties.
