PATNA: Those missing crisp
weather in Patna and other parts of the state will have to wait for couple of days more as meteorologists at Patna Meteorological Centre said minimum temperature would plunge to 10-11 degrees C by December 17.
The weathermen said partly cloudy skies can also be observed at many places in the state from December 17 under the influence of a western disturbance that brought snowfall to J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarkhand and showers to Delhi.
Though the western disturbance has led to westerly winds in the state as well, maximum and minimum temperatures are still being recorded three to four notches higher than normal.
Delhi, on the other hand, is witnessing low temperature conditions following the rains. The maximum temperature in the national capital was recorded at around 18 degrees C on Thursday, four notches lower than the normal. Minimum temperature too was recorded at 10.6 degrees C.
In comparison, minimum temperature in Patna was recorded at 13.8 degrees C on Thursday, three notches higher than normal for the day.
"Temperature will start falling in Patna and most places in the state from Thursday night and it would drop to around 10-11 degrees C by Sunday. Partly cloudy skies will also be observed at a few places in the state owing to residual clouds left behind by the western disturbance," Anand Shankar, meteorological scientist at Patna Meteorological Centre said.
He added westerly winds are picking up speed up to 18kmph at some places in the state, which may lead to drop in temperature. North-westerly winds coming from snowfall-laden J&K and neighbouring states following western disturbance add to chill in the northern plains.
Patna's 30-year (1981-2010) minimum temperature average for December is 10.5 degrees C. However, the minimum temperature for the month was hovering in the range of 12-14 degrees C under the influence of a low pressure area in Bay of Bengal. Maximum temperature, on the other hand, is also still to go below 25 degrees C, a normal phenomenon of peak winter season in Patna.
