Job Description
EMBL-EBI is a world-leader in archiving and disseminating 3D biomacromolecular and cellular structure data. The Cellular Structure & 3D Bioimaging team plays a key role in the dissemination of 3D electron microscopy (EM) data through the EMDB (emdb-empiar.org) and EMPIAR (empiar.org) public archives. We develop and provide advanced tools and web-resources for searching, analyzing and visualizing structural data for the benefit of structural biologists and the wider scientific community. The team consists of an international and inter-disciplinary mix of professionals (scientists and IT specialists) and we are looking to augment the team with a developer to work on an exciting Welcome Trust funded project to develop validation tools for cryo-electron microscopy. This is a joint project with the research groups of Garib Murshudov (MRC-LMB), Elena Orlova (Birkbeck Univeristy of London), Alan Roseman (University of Manchester), Peter Rosenthal (Francis Crick), Maya Topf (Birkbeck University of London), and Martyn Winn (STFC).At EMBL-EBI, we help scientists realise the potential of ‘big data’ in biology by enabling them to exploit complex information to make discoveries that benefit mankind. Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a Masters/PhD degree in a structural biology related field (e.g., 3DEM, X-ray crystallography, and NMR) and at least one years experience in software development (preferably related to a structural biology project). Applicants should have a good understanding of the image formation and image processing concepts in at least one structural field and be prepared to learn relevant concepts for the project.Benefits
