HYDERABAD: Gitam, a deemed to be university which offers courses in management, technology, pharmacy, sciences and mathematics, is all set to make its mark in legal education too. Come 2018, the institution will set up a law college on it campus here. “The proposal for a five-year course in law has been sent to the competent authority. We are awaiting approval from it.

Once we get the go-ahead, the course and other details will be announced,” pro vice-chancellor Prof N Siva Prasad has said. “As of now, we can say that the programme will be different from the conventional courses. So, instead of focusing on the civil and criminal law courses, we have decided to introduce a programme in International Business Law,” he said, adding that an MTech programme in Cyber Forensics and Information Security would also be introduced in 2018-19.

Speaking about the placement scenario, Prasad said that the recruitment drive would go on till March for the current batch of students. “As many as 311 students have received offers till now. We are hopeful of recording 100 per cent placement,” said Dr Nathi Venu Kumar, director of Training and Placement Cell.
