LG has taken the covers off its refreshed lightweight Gram laptop, which now sport Intel’s eighth-generation Core i7 and Core i5 CPUs.
Aside from this performance boost, LG has given the Gram a suite of nips and tucks. Its compact body has now uses a ‘Nano Carbon Magnesium’ metal alloy to improve its build quality and durability yet keep the laptop lightweight.
LG claims the new Gram can pass seven stringent US military MIL-STD 810G durability tests against drops and pressure and temperature changes.
Fitted into its svelte and strong frame is a 72Wh battery, which LG claims will last for a day’s use on a single charge.
And the Gram’s build allows for it to fit a 14-inch screen into a chassis that would normally be expected to hold a 13-inch display, though 13-inch and 15-inch models are also available. And there’s the option to fit a second SSD drive, despite the laptop’s slim profile.
Other features of the Gram line up includes a Thunderbolt 3 port for connecting to high-speed external drives and 4K monitors, an improved touchscreen, and a fingerprint scanner built into the power button for speedy user authentication.
With such features LG looks top be aiming the Gram for people after a portable productivity machine who tend to work on the move, but don’t want a laptop that compromises on connectivity and performance to be ultraportable.
LG will show off the Gram at CES 2018, with the laptop going on sale in US in January; more countries are set to get the Gram soon after. There’s no word on cost or exact configurations, but LG will likely reveal more at CES.
