Exit polls: BJP predicted to win both Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh

*In phase one, voting was conducted on Saturday for 89 seats and registered a turnout of 68 percent.

*Voting was conducted for the remaining 93 assembly constituencies on Thursday for the second phase of assembly polls in Gujarat.

*Last month, Himachal Pradesh concluded voting on November 9 and recorded its highest turnout at 74 percent.

*After the conclusion of the second phase of voting in Gujarat polls by today evening, exit polls will start predicting the winners for both the state assemblies.

*The results for both the state assemblies will be announced on December 18.

*In 2012, Indian National Congress party came to power in Himachal Pradesh when it won 36 of the 68 seats in the state assembly.


*In Gujarat, BJP has been in power for the last 22 years.


*The results of the Gujarat elections are expected to have a crucial impact on the upcoming assembly polls in 2018 and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.


*In 2018, fate of eight state assemblies will be put to ballot, including Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram.


*Today, PM Narendra Modi cast his vote at booth number 115 in Sabarmati's Ranip locality. Patidar leader Hardik Patel, finance minister Arun Jaitley, BJP president Amit Shah, BJP leader LK Advani, former Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel, Congress state chief Bharatsinh Solanki and Deputy CM Nitin Patel were the others to register their votes in the second phase of the elections.
