PUBG Xbox One update: New Battlegrounds reveal is bad news for Microsoft

BATTLEGROUNDS finally arrives on Xbox One, but not everybody is impressed with the performance.

PUBG Battlegrounds has performance issues on Xbox One

PUBG's Xbox One release hasn't been smooth sailing, as performance issues plague Battlegrounds.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has drawn criticism for being rough around the edges on Xbox One. That's according to Eurogamer's Digital Foundry team, which calls PUBG a disappointment.

"PUBG on Xbox One starts up promisingly enough with a decent, attractive front-end," the post reads.

"But once you've moved on from character creation to your first in-game lobby, you're instantly besieged by low resolution textures that seem to be failing to stream in properly, combined with performance just above or below the 20fps threshold - depending on whether you're playing on Xbox One or its significantly more powerful 4K counterpart."

The Xbox One X version performs slightly better, with improved textures and draw distances.

Microsoft previously reminded fans that Xbox Game Preview releases are a work-in-progress.

"As a reminder, Xbox Game Preview is a way for fans to preview and purchase the game while it’s a work-in-progress," Microsoft continues.

"PUBG Corp are approaching development on Xbox One with the same community-driven focus that they’ve taken with the game on PC and your feedback is key.

"Play the game, give the developers feedback and help make the game the best it can be."

The first review score was posted by NDTV earlier this week.

The 5/10 review says that while the gunplay is satisfying, PUBG's technical issues and challenge aren't enough to tempt new players.

"Despite some problems, there is some fun to be had with PUBG," the review states.

"The gunplay is satisfying when aiming works as it should, and the ever shrinking map provides an interesting challenge as it results in more frequent, chaotic encounters.

"As it stands PUBG is an interesting addition to the FPS landscape. There’s an intriguing balance of randomness and skill that could make it a mainstay of the gaming community. But until it sorts out its many technical issues as well as becoming more accessible to newbies, we’d suggest holding off."
