The police resorted to lathicharge in order to disperse the volatile protesters who came out on the streets in support of Shambu Lal Raigar, accused of hacking and burning a man to death in Rajsamand over 'love jehad'.

The police arrested several protesters as well. The protesting youths will be taken out of the city area.

Several from Hindu organizations gathered despite imposition of Section 144 in Udaipur district.

Shambu Lal Raigar, the man behind Rajsamand hate crime, was arrested from Kelva region in Rajsamand and sent into police custody.

A video showing him burning the man alive had surfaced after which senior police officials from the Rajsamand district had been camping there keeping tight vigil on the law and order situation.

After the first video, another video of Shambunath had surfaced in which he admitted to committing the crime and mentioned that he will surrender.

The district administration in Rajasthan's Udaipur district has been keeping a close tab on the situation prevailing there in the aftermath of the brutal murder by Shambu Lal Raigar. Udaipur is an adjoining district of Rajsamand, where a man was hacked and later burnt by the accused.

At several significant junctions in the city, including at Chetak Circle, Reti Stand and town hall, the police used force to ensure that the situation is under control.

Several inflammatory videos were circulating in the district due to which the district administration had to clamp down with a district-wide imposition of Section 144.  A 24-hour ban on internet services has also been imposed in the district.

During a protest rally taken out in the district, speeches targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and certain religious and social organizations were made. The video of that was widely circulated.

The Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha also took out a rally on the occasion of Vasunddhara Raje government's completion of four years. During that also, there was sloganeering. The video of that also went viral. A message mentioning about a rally in reply to the one taken earlier by members of a community was also widely circulated.
