PUNE: The nip is back in the air and the minimum temperature in the city could hover around 11°C within a couple of days.

The mercury will slip during the next three days. It will again go north from December 17 owing to cloudy skies and the minimum temperature may surge to 12°C.

The minimum temperature dropped to 14.7°C in Lohegaon on Wednesday. Shivajinagar was also cold recording a minimum temperature of 13.8°C. Yet, the lowest temperature in Shivajinagar was above normal by over two degrees.

Identically, most weather stations in the state continued to record above-normal night temperature. The minimum temperature has been on the higher side for several days now, especially in central Maharashtra, Vidharbha and Marathwada.

A Met department official said the minimum temperature in Shivajinagar and Lohegaon had been on the higher side under the influence of easterlies coming into the region because of the cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka and its neighbourhood. "This has been causing moisture incursion and clouding. Clouding in the night causes minimum temperature to rise because cloud prevents terrestrial radiation from escaping into the atmosphere," the official said.
