The 23rd Youth Festival of Vinoba Bhave University began on Wednesday in the premises of St Columba’s college Hazaribagh. 589 participants of 25 colleges of the university are taking part in this three day long grand yearly event of the university. Participants from different colleges first took part in the starting event called cultural procession with enthusiasm. Addressing the students, the VC Prof Ramesh Sharan said that the youth can change the fate of the country.
After cultural procession the participants gathered in the main ground of host St Columba’s college to take part in the official inauguration ceremony. VC Prof Ramesh Sharan, PVC Dr Kunul Kandir, DSW Dr Rajesh Kumar, MLA Barhi Manoj Kumar Yadav, registrar Dr BP Rukhaiyar, Principal Dr SK Toppo inaugurated ‘Jhoomar- 2017’ by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering the VC first remembered former Vice Chancellor late Dr Bahura Ekka who had given the name Jhoomar to the youth festival of the university. “Jharkhand is a state having rich culture, tradition, music, art etc. and here you will get a chance to prove your mettle in different events related to the above themes. We all feel young when we remain in touch of youths like you. It gives us strength to do better because I believe that youths can change the fate of the country.”
PVC Dr. Kunul Kandir said, “During next 72 hours you will get opportunity to show your hidden talent. It is a platform which can shape your future.” She said that previously we had decided to organize this festival in PK Roy memorial college Dhanbad but after bifurcation of the university St. Columba’s college took the responsibility.
MLA Barhi Manoj Kumar Yadav said that youths are said to be the backbones of the society, state and country. “It is said that youths can not only face the challenges successfully but also possesses the power of getting solution of problems. I am feeling proud today being an Ex-Columbian to welcome you all in the premises and hoped that everyone will take part in different competitions with sportsman spirit.”
In the cultural procession teams of different colleges presented the ancient art and culture of the country, some came out in streets spreading messages of swacch bharat, atithi devo bhawa, beti bacchao beti padhao while some attracted the denizens with their presentations based on burning social problems.
