New University of Houston vice president of intercollegiate athletics Chris Pezman agreed to a three-year deal that could pay up to $525,000 annually, according to contract details obtained by the Houston Chronicle.

Pezman will earn a base salary of $375,000 during the term of the contract, which runs through Jan. 7, 2021. There is an option for a one-year extension after 12 months of the job at the discretion of UH president Renu Khator.

Pezman can receive an additional $150,000 in bonus incentives based on on-field performance, postseason appearances and Academic Progress Rate.

Here are some of the highlights from the memorandum of understanding:

Base salary

Pezman’s contract takes effect Jan. 8, 2018, and will pay him a base salary of $375,000.

Deferred compensation 

An additional 12 percent of base salary will be contributed annually by the University into a deferred compensation plan that will vest at the end of the term if Pezman remains employed by school.

Postseason success 

Pezman will receive a one-time payment of $50,000 if UH plays in a New Year’s Six bowl game, reach the NCAA men’s basketball tournament Sweet Sixteen or the College World Series. A national championship in a team sport is worth $25,000.

In the classroom

If the graduation success rate increases by 10 percent from the previous academic year and all sports have a Academic Progress Rate above 975, Pezman will receive a one-time payment of $25,000.

Attendance

For every sellout of home football and men’s basketball games, Pezman will receive a one-time payment of $10,000 for each occurrence.

Early termination 

Latest College Sports Highlights

If UH terminates the contract without cause, Pezman will receive one-half of the base salary for the remainder of the contract, and only the difference in salary if Pezman takes another job.

If Pezman leaves he will owe the base salary remaining on the contract.
