The arcade bar 1983 will open Dec. 21 at 1110 N. Old World Third St.
The bar will open at 4 p.m. that Thursday for its grand opening party. Arcade games will be 25 cents to play. The first 50 customers in the door will get 20 free tokens.
The bar will celebrate with an all-night happy hour with $1 off all beers, $2 off cocktails and $3 specialty shots.
According to the bar's website, 1983 will have 22 classic arcade games, four pinball machines and one bubble hockey game. It also says the arcade will have a bi-monthly rotation of games. Some classic games listed on the site are Big Buck Hunter, Donkey Kong and Ms. PacMan, among others.
The new bar takes over the former game room from the closed Lucille's Piano bar.
One of the owners, Michael Sampson, said the name comes from the year Nintendo launched in Japan. It's also his birth year.
Sampson also is an owner of the restaurant Brunch on N. Plankinton Ave. Sampson and his wife are excited to bring an arcade bar to Milwaukee, he said. The pair like visiting the chain Barcade while traveling in the northeast United States.
