Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio all rank higher than the Bayou City when it comes to safety.

Granted, Houston is the biggest city in Texas, it's still an interesting statistic. Sadly, denser populations equal a higher crime rate.

The ranking of 65 Texas cities with populations over 50,0000 people, coming from the security people at SafeHome, took into account FBI and census data to tabulate Houston's score. The number of law enforcement personnel in each city is part of the scoring process. Demographic metrics also go into the special stew.

Houston, the land of ATM smash-and-grabs and road-rage shootings, has some work to do.

Flower Mound, south of Denton, is Texas' safest city according to SafeHome. During 2015, according to SafeHome, only 34 violent crimes were reported.

The least safe is Lubbock, where 2,391 violent incidents were reported in the same year.

Of the cities in the top ten, Sugar Land came in at number 7 with League City trailing in the tenth spot.

Dallas came in at number 45 on the ranking with 9.038 violent crimes. Dallas, it should be noted, has about a million less residents than Houston.
