LeBron James: Houston Rockets backed to make shock move for Cleveland Cavaliers star

STEPHEN A. SMITH strongly believes the Houston Rockets will make a play to sign LeBron James in free agency next summer.

The Houston Rockets have recently been touted as a possible destination for LeBron James

James is continuing to break records and defy logic on the basketball court despite his advancing years.

He knocked down 25 points and matched his career-best for assists wth 17 in the 123-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks this evening.

The 13-time All-Star is in the running to win his fifth MVP title, which would put him level with Michael Jordan and Bill Russell just one behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

But as the season continues to take shape, rumours surrounding James’ future continue to circulate.

The 32-year-old enters free agency again next summer with the world waiting in anticipation on what his decision will be.

He can decline a £26.7million player-option in his current deal to become an unrestricted free agent and much speculation has suggested he could choose to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

But this week it has emerged that the Rockets believe they have a legitimate chance at bringing James to Houston.

And ESPN commentator Smith believes James wouldn’t find a better ready-made team to challenge for the Championship than the Rockets.

“I’ve consistently heard that Cleveland is likely where he will stay,” Smith said on ESPN’s First Take.

“If he decides to leave I can’t imagine that there’s a better spot than Houston if CP3 and James Harden are there.

“I’ve never heard CP3 this happy. He’s ecstatic playing basketball in Houston.”

He added: “You heard it hear first Max. Next summer the Houston Rockts will get one of two players.

“It’s going to be LeBron or DeAndre Jordan.”
