Speaker Paul Ryan may retire after the 2018 midterm elections!

According to Politico interviews with three dozen of Ryan’s colleagues, not a single person believed he would stay in Congress past 2018.

Ryan has spent nearly 20 years in congress working on Tax reform, which seems to be looming closer to reality, as house republicans hope to have a bill ready for President Trump by Christmas.

Politico says Ryan told people closest to him that this will be his final term as Speaker.

Amid the speculation, a few people that could potentially replace Ryan include Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Majority Whip Steve Scalise, and GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

However, he denies the reports, answering a reporter’s question after a Thursday morning press conference about whether he was leaving soon with a curt “no.”
