4 goldsmiths hurt in cylinder blast

Four goldsmiths sustained burn injuries when a refilled gas cylinder burst in a jewellery shop in Phulbari upazila yesterday.

The injured are Subrata Roy, 28, son of Babul Roy, Hari Roy, 45, son of Keshori Roy, Ratan Kumar Thakur, 32, son of Mohendra Thakur, and Sumon Roy, 30, son of Tarapada Roy of the upazila. They are employees of Dutta Jewellers in the area.

Locals said the cylinder was brought and kept inside the shop after refilling in the morning. Around 12:30pm, the cylinder went off with a big bang, leaving four goldsmiths injured.

They were rushed to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex with burn injuries. Of them, Subrata, Hari and Sumon were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical state, said said Sheeb Proshad Dutta, owner of the jewellery shop.
