HC rejects bail plea of former UP minister Gayatri Prajapati

Press Trust of India  |  Lucknow

The High today rejected the bail plea of former UP minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati in connection with a gang rape case.

Justice Pratush Kumar of the bench also turned down the plea of co-accused Vikas Verma.

Additional advocate general V K Sahi argued that the accused had gang raped a Chitrakoot woman and also tried to forcibly make physical relations with her minor daughter and, hence, the matter was very serious.

A sessions had earlier allowed them bail but the HC had cancelled it as the prosecution was not given ample time to oppose the plea.

It had, however, permitted the accused to apply for bail afresh.

Prajapati, who was a minister in the previous Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on March 15.
