Nagpur: Legislators skipping both the houses is not unheard of, as most of them hardly attend the debates on vital issues. Now, BJP's chief whip Raj Purohit has issued a warning to all the MLAs on Wednesday to attend the house regularly.
The party has 122 MLAs in the 288-member assembly where it has teamed up with ally Shiv Sena having 63 members to form the government.
In his letter, the MLA stated that many BJP legislators were not seen in Nagpur even on the third day of the winter session. He also pointed out that many of elected representatives from the party were not visible in both the houses even after arriving in the city.
"Your presence in the houses is a must, regarding daily business and also for maintaining the party's prestige. You can complete other works with the minister and other offices after the session is adjourned," said Purohit.
He further requested the legislators to arrive before time on the assembly premises and visit the BJP's office set up there. "You will sign on the register at the office and take a seat in the house at the start of the proceedings. As far as possible, you should stay throughout the day, taking active part in debates and discussions," he stated in the letter.
MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, who is the second whip in BJP, however said it was a routine exercise to write such letters to legislators so that they should remain in the house and give strength to the motions and resolutions floated by the party.
"It's chief whip's duty to issue such advisories. The MLAs usually remain in the house during morning hours when the question hour and calling attention motions are conducted. They then move to ministers and various departments for any pending work of their respective constituencies," he said.
