PM Modi commissions Scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari into Indian Navy

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday commissioned Scorpene-class submarine Kalvari into Navy in Mumbai. At the commissioning ceremony, PM Modi said, “Kalvari is an excellent example of ‘Make in India’, will boost Navy’s might.”

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and governor C. Vidyasagar Rao were present at the ceremony.

Kalvari is the first of the six Scorpene-class submarines handed over by shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Ltd. The submarines, designed by French naval defence and energy company DCNS, are being built by Mazagon Dock in Mumbai as part of Project-75 of the Indian Navy.
