Transcript: Harvey Weinstein Responds to Salma Hayek’s Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Harvey Weinstein responding to Salma Hayek’s new claims in the New York Times that he stalked her, forced her to do a nude lesbian scene, and threatened to kill her.

Weinstein made the statement to Deadline, saying that he “championed her for the role” of Frida, over Jennifer Lopez, who at that time was “the bigger star.” He also said he did “not recall pressuring Salma to do a gratuitous sex scene” and “was not there for the filming.” A new statement did not directly respond to the allegations that he pressured her to take showers with him, let him watch her shower, let a naked friend massage her, and let him perform oral sex.

He said, “All of the sexual allegations as portrayed by Salma are not accurate and others who witnessed the events have a different account of what transpired.” Others have rallied behind Hayek, like Reese Witherspoon, who tweeted, “Truer words have never been spoken.

I am in awe of my dear friend @SalmaHayek’s strength, passion, & composure during her horrific ordeal. #MeToo.” Hayek closed her opinion piece in the Times by saying this is a new era for women. “Men sexually harassed because they could.

Women are talking today because, in this new era, we finally can.”
