Rafael Nadal makes bold prediction after winning huge Conde De Godo trophy

RAFAEL NADAL has been honoured for his 2017 success by claiming a second silver Conde De Godo trophy.

The Barcelona Open rewards its players for every five times they win the competition with an enlarged replicate made of silver.

And Nadal claimed his 10th win in the tournament this year by beating Dominic Thiem in the final, meaning he picked up his second De Godo Trophy.

The Spaniard had a glittering year where he also won the French Open, US open and finished the season as world number one.

While he is enjoying his off-season in Manacor, Spain, Albert Agusti, president of the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona 1899, and Javier Godo, Count of Godo in Barcelona, paid him a visit to award him the prestigious piece of silverware.

Nadal claimed this would be the last time he received the award.

I'm very excited about this second big Barcelona trophy, but there will be no more.

Nadal was a graceful recipient but claimed it would be the last time he receives the trophy - perhaps hinting at retirement within the next five years.

"I'm very excited about this second big Barcelona trophy, but there will be no more,” Nadal said, via a video on YouTube.

The trophy was presented to Nadal at his private museum and Agusti was proud to present the award, while contradicting the 31-year-old’s statement.

"There's no one better fit to receive this award in his own museum than Nadal," Agusti said.

"(Nadal) is going to have to make room in this museum because there are surely more trophies to come.”

Nadal is expected to return to action at the Abu Dhabi exhibition event later this month.
