In a bid to grab decent slot in the upcoming Swachchhta Sarvekshan-2017, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is leaving no stone unturned. To achieve the massive target of downloading approximately 25,000 ‘Swachchhta’ mobile applications dedicated to resolve  basic civic issues like garbage collection on time, registration of complains, giving an option to citizens to upload a picture is showing an encouraging result.

After the coal city Dhanbad that has attempted hard to improve its past record, the Capital City as well is geared up to meet the challenges. Nandu Baraik, a representative of State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) who is maintaining the record of day to day progress of total number of mobile applications downloaded by the city residents here said, “By April 2017, around 15,400 people have downloaded the

mobile applications. Considering the population of each district, the target has been set. RMC has been given the target of 25,000.”

Baraik further added that the attempts are being made to achieve the target of ensuring app download by December 20, however, the target set up by the government for all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) is December 31. Sharing the details of active and non-active users that clearly hints mobile application’s utility and popularity among the residents.

Baraik said, “The ratio varies on daily basis on ‘Swacch City’ dashboard, still, merely 300 city residents are there who are non-active users while maximum public are utilising the mobile application feature.” Sharing the latest data, he further added, “On December 8, as many as 133 cases were resolved through this mobile application out of 371 cases registered while 128 cases are under process.”

RMC which performed badly in Swachchhta Survey previous year on different parameters, conducted annually by Ministry of Urban Development and Housing is utilizing the power of social media to make people aware about the mobile application besides advertising about the same at different places.

The whole idea behind launching of the Swacchta mobile App by the Ministry was to ensure faster resolution of complains. The feature of mobile app allows grasping the exact location of the area of the complain using the geo-location of the pictures.

Once a city resident has posted a picture of garbage strewn street or any other related issue, it gets forwarded to the concerned department of the civic body handling this task. All ULBs have been mapped to this app fixing the timeline to resolve the complain cases.
