The 21-year-old midfielder is also being eyed by Championship rivals Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers.
He has made five appearances in all competitions this term but Jose Mourinho believes he has a big future.
United bosses want him to play first-team football, which has alerted the trio of clubs.
An Old Trafford source told The Sun: “Around five clubs have already asked about Scott and whether he will be available when the window opens.
“Jose has promised to keep him in the loop. He wants him to get action, but there are issues in that area which might stop it.
“Michael Carrick had a heart procedure last month and there is some fitness concerns there which are not sorted yet.
“There is also the worry over Marouane Fellaini and his contract situation with just six-months left.
“We don’t know whether he will still be here come February.”
Mourinho indicated last month that McTominay would not be leaving the club on loan in January.

“I think what is happening with (Jesse) Lingard and (Marcus) Rashford is now happening with Scott McTominay… because he is not going to leave the club any more," he said.
“To follow a certain pathway is important. I am doing it with McTominay. Mr Van Gaal had the start of Rashford, I am having it with Scott McTominay and, next year, there should be another.”
Leeds have already made one signing ahead of the transfer window.
The Whites have agreed a deal worth an initial £500,000 to sign Gamba Osaka midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi.
