Liverpool to rest star player for West Brom clash as Klopp hits back at rotation critics

JURGEN KLOPP has defended his rotation policy at Liverpool – and could prove his belief in it by resting Mohamed Salah tonight.

The Liverpool manager came in for criticism for leaving Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino on the bench for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

Klopp also took Salah off with Liverpool leading 1-0 but he defended the changes and now Salah could be next to sit out with West Brom visiting Anfield tonight.

The Egyptian ace is fit despite feeling his hamstring “a little bit” during the Merseyside derby which led him to being brought off in the 67th minute.

Klopp dismissed criticism of his rotation policy despite making 59 changes to his team this term – 20 more than any other club in the Premier League.

He said: “We have a little information after a game and sometimes that leads to a decision that sometimes you should not go with the risk of this player or that player.

“We have to make these decisions. I have said in the future of football there will be more rotation because no one will take away the games.

“It is quicker, more intense, with more sprints, more high runs, less breaks and so many things.

“It is going in one direction and you have to react.”

West Brom manager Alan Pardew has admitted he’s calling on a psychologist to try and help his punch-drunk side – himself.

The Baggies have endured 15 consecutive games without a victory – and if that is extended at Anfield tonight then it will be the longest in the club’s 139-year history.

“Do we use a psychologist? Yes, it’s me,” said Pardew.

“I’m the psychologist around here. I can’t play though. I like to talk to them as a group and one-on-one about how to try and see a game through and they’re intelligent enough to take it on board.

“Right now, we’re just looking for a win no matter how it comes. The odds are stacked against us at Anfield and they will be stacked against us on Sunday when Manchester United come here. But that doesn’t mean you don’t fight.”
