Arsenal news: Robert Pires worried about Olivier Giroud

ROBERT PIRES has urged Arsenal star Olivier Giroud to hold talks with Arsene Wenger as he grows concerned about the striker’s future.

Giroud has been marginalised at Arsenal this term and has been restricted to substitute appearances in the Premier League, although he came off the bench to score a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Southampton.

The Frenchman came close to joining Everton in the summer, but he was convinced by Wenger to stay, as he was told he would have a future at the Emirates.

With the World Cup next summer, the 31-year-old knows he needs to play regular football in order to get a call-up.

Gunners legend Pires has given Giroud a piece of advice over what he should do.

However, he has urged the striker not to make a hasty decision over his future.

“I saw a good reaction [from Arsenal] when Southampton scored and a good professional like Olivier Giroud making an impact,” Pires told Goal.

“The situation is not easy for him [Giroud] because he wants to play and go to the World Cup with France.

“As a player he’s not comfortable but this is football and Arsene Wenger has a selection dilemma on who to pick over Giroud and Lacazette right now.

“The first thing I’d do [if I was Giroud] is to talk with Arsene Wenger because he’s the manager.

“Giroud is a great player and very important but before making a decision he needs to meet with Arsene and the chief executive Mr Gazidis.

“After the meeting he can take a decision but as I understand the situation for Olivier he’s not comfortable actually.”

Arsenal, who are sixth in the table, travel to face West Ham on Wednesday (8pm).
