Surat: In three separate incidents reported from different parts of the city on Tuesday, burglars targeted people commuting on the roads. The burglars escaped with valuables even before the victims could react in the thefts carried out on crowded roads.

An Indian Air Force corporal Rakesh Bajiya (27) posted at Nashik Air Force station Devlali, south Nashik, was robbed within few minutes of him reaching the city. Bajiya was to catch a train for his native place Sikar in Rajasthan from Surat railway station on Monday night. He arrived in the city in a private transport bus from Nashik and got down at around 9.40 pm on Monday near Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER). He sat in an autorickshaw to reach railway station in which already three passengers were sitting. After going a few metres away, the rickshaw driver stopped the vehicle near Sahara Darwaja railway underbridge and claimed that there was some problem in his vehicle. He asked Bajiya to get down and left as soon as he got down. After a while Bajiya checked his pocket and realized that his identity card was missing. He then lodged a complaint with Puna police station early on Tuesday.

In other cases, some unidentified person stole a mobile phone from a 27-year-old Amroli resident when he was near Udhna railway station on Tuesday evening. The burglar robbed Kuldeep Yadav's phone worth Rs 5,000 from his shirt pocket. A 27-year-old Bhestan resident became victim of bag snatching when she was on Rokadiya Hanuman overbridge in Khatodara on Tuesday. Nirali Patel lodged the complaint in Khatodara police station after her bag with cash and valuables worth Rs 19,000 was snatched from her while she was on a moving scooter.
