Antoine Griezmann set to snub United and join Barcelona

Snow is falling, all around you... which can only mean one thing - the winter transfer window is now just around the corner.

Some of world football's biggest names were on the move in the summer, Neymar smashing the world transfer record by swapping Barcelona for PSG, but as we prepare for the winter window to creak open many closer to home could follow him in big money moves in January.

Manchester City were the summer's biggest spenders splashing over £200m on new arrivals but Pep Guardiola isn't likely to stop there with a title there for the taking. Crosstown rivals United were busy too and will want more despite adding Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof in the summer with Jose Mourinho keen on an attacking wide player and a new full back.

Liverpool struggled to get deals over the line and could still lose Coutinho while Chelsea are still in need of bodies as Antonio Conte continues to battle with a hectic fixture list.

We will have all the latest news for you right here so don't touch that dial.

Live Updates

Alex Sandro has told Juventus he wants to leave the club in order to push through a move to Chelsea, rather than Manchester United, according to The Sun.
The Independent’s Miguel Delaney reported earlier this month that United were going to go for Sandro ahead of Tottenham’s Danny Rose, after feeling Juventus would be easier to do a deal with.
But that now appears like it won’t happened with Chelsea, who were chasing the Brazilian throughout the summer, apparently Sandro’s first choice.

The battle for Thomas Lemar is well and truly underway already as Chelsea have become the latest side hoping for a late Christmas gift from Monaco.
Arsenal came very close on deadline day only for Lemar to pull out and opt to stay at the club despite a mass exodus, while Liverpool have also been strongly linked.
But it is Antonio Conte’s side who are now leading the way according to reports in France with, L’Equipe, claiming the Premier League champions are set to bid £80m in January.
The Blues are hoping Monaco’s exit from the Champions League and their near certainty of not retaining the Ligue 1 title will encourage them to sell one of their star players.

Some Arsenal news and reports in Spain suggest that the Gunners have agreed a deal to bring former Stoke and Blackburn midfielder Steven N'Zonzi back to the Premier League.

The Frenchman has fallen out of favour at Sevilla and looks to be available for around £35m next month.

Worth it? We'd say so. One to keep an eye on.

Speaking of West Ham, their outspoken co-chairman David Sullivan has once again made promises for the upcoming transfer window after insisting that there will be "two or three" new signings in January:
David Moyes is still weighing up the areas we are short in but you can be rest assured two or three players will be brought in to improve the team. Before then, we have players available again after injury, with more set to return soon, too, so there is competition for places.
Another Arsenal player who is out of contract at the end of the season is Jack Wilshere, and his starvation of first-team football this season is increasing the chances of the midfield leaving in January to try and force his way back into the England squad for the World Cup next summer.

One club who is definitely interested is West Ham, with David Moyes confirming his interest during yesterday's press conference:
You’d hope that if you took a player from another Premier League club it’d be much easier for him to go right into the team and play well. Jack Wilshere would be someone who we’d have to look at if he was available.
I do believe the transfer window could be the difference between relegation and staying up. If we can get the right players, that’s the big part of it.
I also want to make sure we’re looking at players who’ve got time and who can be at the club for a long period and not just in for a short period. Then there’s also the short-term fix for me which is, how do we get enough wins between now and the end of the season? There’s a balance between that.

Jack Wilshere is wanted by West Ham in the January window

Even though Arsenal look poised to lose Alexis Sanchez AND Mesut Özil, the club are not giving up on their attempts to keep at least one of them beyond the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger confirmed that they remain in negotiations with Özil's camp to tie the German down to a new contact, but talks are starting to reach a last-ditch stage and the writing appears to be on the wall for the north London club.

We start this morning with our big news that Manchester United look set to miss out on Antoine Griezmann.

Despite being close to signing the forward last summer, our chief football writer Miguel Delaney reports that the Atletico Madrid forward is heading to Barcelona in the summer...

What the papers say

Chelsea are reportedly considering entering the race to sign Monaco star Thomas Lemar in January, alongside Liverpool and Arsenal. The France midfielder turned down a move to the Premier League in August but, according to the Daily Mail, reports in France claim the Premier League champions are set to bid £80million next month.

Meanwhile, Chelsea could bag Juventus defender and Manchester United target Alex Sandro in January, the Sun reports. The paper says United have had the Brazilian star on their shopping list but the defender has made it clear he wants to move to Stamford Bridge.

West Ham are said to be eyeing up Reading's Liam Moore as David Moyes looks to strengthen his defence. The Mirror says the Hammers watched Moore in the Royals' 2-2 draw with Cardiff on Monday and could be tempted to make a move in the January transfer window.

Manchester United are concerned that Antoine Griezmann will move to Barcelona over Old Trafford in the summer, The Independent reports. The paper claims the Spanish side have surged ahead in the race for his signature, after a deal with United fell apart in June in the wake of Atletico Madrid's transfer ban.

Chelsea have been rebuffed in a £22million move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, according to the Daily Mail. The Premier League champions see the 20-year-old as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard, the paper says, but Leverkusen will fight to keep the talented youngster. Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona are also reportedly keeping tabs on the Jamaican.

Social media round-up

@TheSunFootball: EXCLUSIVE: Man United want £20million German ace Nadiem Amiri.

@TeleFootball: Manchester City hoping to tie down Gabriel Jesus with new long-term deal.

Players to watch

Jann-Fiete Arp: Tottenham and Everton have joined the list of clubs keeping an eye on the 17-year-old striker, the Mirror reports. The German starlet has impressed with his record-breaking season, breaking into the Hamburg first team and becoming the first player born in 2000 to play and score in the Bundesliga. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are also said to be interested in the young player.

Scott McTominay: The Manchester United star is wanted on loan by several Championship clubs, according to the Sun. The paper says Jose Mourinho is a fan of the 21-year-old, but it is thought the Red Devils would like him to get some regular time on the pitch. Clubs such as Leeds, Preston and Bolton are said to be on alert - although concerns over some of United's other midfielders could mean he will stay put, the paper adds.
