Dharwad: District In-charge minister Vinay Kulkarni has directed the deputy commissioner and ZP CEO to write to insurance companies, the state and Union governments, seeking measures to disburse pending crop insurance amount to the farmers in the next 15 days.
Chairing a meeting to review the works under the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) here on Wednesday, Kulkarni said that the private insurance companies are showing negligence in disbursing crop insurance money to farmers. "Still, over 1,000 farmers are waiting to get their crop insurance," he said.
When he sought to know why the agriculture department is silent over the issue, joint director T Rudresh stated that Rs 172 crore was sanctioned to the district as crop insurance and Rs 87 crore has been released. Unhappy with the reply, the minister asked deputy commissioner S B Bommanahalli to immediately pass a resolution to remit the amount in 15 days.
Some villagers from Navalgund complained that the department is not providing financial assistance under the Krishi Honda scheme. Kulkarni directed agriculture department officials to visit inspect agri ponds and release subsidy on the spot.
Officials of the major irrigation department informed that the government has earmarked Rs 1,120 crore for the modernization of Malaprabha Right Bank Canal. A tender has been invited for Rs 945 crore and the same will get the green signal in one week, they said, adding that the work will begin in 15 days.
Kulkarni said that the PWD should submit a report on the work carried out at Narendra Cross to Jubilee Circle stretch as there have complaints of shoddy work.
ZP president Chaitra Shirur, vice-president Shivanand Karigar, Bommanahalli and ZP CEO Snehal Rayamane were present at the meeting.
