30 fatal accidents in Goan factories in five years: Parrikar

PANAJI: Goa witnessed 30 fatal accidents in factories and industrial units since 2012 and in the five year period since then, 33 separate accidents classified as serious were reported, minister for factories and boilers Manohar Parrikar said.


The state government has initiated criminal action against the management of the factories in 16 cases while one incident is under investigation by Goa Police, Parrikar said.


Most of the accidents occurred at Verna Industrial Estate and at Cuncolim Industrial estate, with Kundaim Industrial Estate coming a distant third in the list that was released by the chief minister on Wednesday in the state legislative assembly.


Parrikar did not specify if any compensation was disbursed to industrial workers and their families in case of death or serious injuries.
