RIL rubbishes news about IPO
RIL has rubbished all news about Reliance Industries Ltd considering an IPO of mobile operator Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. It was earlier reported that Mukesh Ambani backed RIL was holding internal discussions about preparing to list JIO. Jio hasn't made a profit since its official launch last year. We would like to state that the said article is speculative and as a policy, we do not comment on media speculation and rumours," said an RIL spokesperson

SEBI looks into social media messages
Indian market regulator is looking into the issue of messages on company results circulated by market insiders in private WhatsApp groups, its chairman has said. This is a sign the investigation is gaining momentum.SEBI had summoned chief financial officers and company secretaries of at least 12 firms over the issue of whether social media messages involving them were being circulated.

India ranks poorly on mobile Speedtest Global Index
India was ranked  109 for mobile internet speed out of 122 countries, while it was ranked a little better, but not at a very encouraging, 76 out of 133 countries for broadband speed, speed testing service, Ookla mentioned in its November edition of the Speedtest Global Index. The index reveals that mobile speed for November is 8.80 mbps, while of broadband is 18.82 mbps.

Apple sales in India to touch $2 bn mark
Apple Inc is ready to touch the $2 bn mark in sales from India although the going was tough after demonetisation last year. Apple India has posted sales of Rs 11619 cr or $1.8 bn for the year ended March 2017 which translates to a 17% growth in India. Apple has termed India as one of its fastest growing markets and has launched several initiatives in the country over the past 2 years including production and manufacturing of iphones.

SC slams NCLT over Unitech
Calling the NCLT's recent ruling on Unitech "disturbing", the Supreme Court slammed the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for directing the government to form a nominee board to initiate the takeover process at a time when the SC is hearing the case. The top court said the government should have sought its permission before approaching the tribunal for the company takeover and suspension of its board of directors. How the government and the NCLT will react to the issue remains to be seen.

Bharti Airtel launches 'Project Leap'
As part of 'Project Leap', Bharti Airtel has launched 4G services in Kargil, Dras, and Leh areas of Ladakh. The biggest telecom service provider in India claimed to be the the first telecom operator to launch high-speed telecom services in the difficult terrain. Project Leap is an initiative under which Airtel is creating a nationwide 4G footprint extending from Ladakh to Kanyakumari and from Tawang to Kutch.

BSE to take firms to bankruptcy court
For the first time, a stock exchange is taking firms  that have failed to pay up dues to the bankruptcy court. BSE Ltd is taking 7 companies to NCLT under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code for non-payment of annual listing fees.The exchange has identified 130 such companies..

Feminism is 'word of the year'

Meriam-Webster's word of the year for 2017 is 'feminism'. In 2017, lookups for the word 'feminism' increased 70% over 2016 on Meriamwebster.com and spiked several times after key events. The word has ridden on the back of key events like the Women's march in Washington, sister demonstrations, Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and the hugely successful 'Metoo' movement on social media.
