‘Umm…Is that my nan?’ Football legend gets the ‘Ronaldo statue’ treatment

ARGENTINA icon Diego Maradona may have to look twice in the mirror after a statue bearing a questionable resemblance to the star was unveiled.

The bronze sculpture was erected in India to honour the podgy prodigy who lifted the white and sky-blues to the World Cup trophy in 1986.

But fans quickly mocked the statue with some comparing the it with their grandmothers.

One even suggested the “hand of God” legend looked like former England manager Roy Hodgson.

Maradona, however, was pleased with his likeness and added it felt “amazing”.

He said: “I am not God of football, but a simple footballer.

“It’s amazing to have my statue here.”

The icon was in Kolkata for a charity even almost 10 years after he first arrived in the West Bengal capital.

But he is far from the only star to suffer from an unfortunate unveiling.

Cristiano Ronaldo endured mockery when a bust of himself was revealed at a Portuguese airport.

The smiling bronze sculpture was mercilessly ridiculed to the extent the sculpture removed it before replacing it with a better effigy.
