A mother who searched desperately for her children on Monday afternoon has accused her foreign domestic worker of taking revenge against her – by "kidnapping" her five-year-old son and two-year-old daughter.

The incident happened on December 11 at around 2pm at Block 827 Woodlands Street 81, Shin Min Daily News reported.

A 33-year-old man surnamed Bai said he found the mother crying while walking with a friend. They learned from the woman that her children were taken away by the maid and had not been seen since noon.

The woman told the men she previously caught her maid "red-handed" stealing a mobile phone. That led her to suspect that the disappearance of her son and daughter was connected with the alleged theft.

By 4pm of the same day, a man, believed to be the desperate woman's husband, brought the two children home in a baby stroller.

Police intercepted the maid with two children – who had been reported as missing – at Woodlands Bus Interchange.

A preliminary investigation found that the maid had taken the children to a shopping mall to play. Since she did not have a mobile phone with her, the maid could not keep her employer informed about their whereabouts.
