A 31-year-old man turned himself in to Sheung Shui Police on Tuesday morning in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Fanling in the New Territories.

The man of South Asian origin allegedly drove through a red light on Wu Muk Road in Fanling at 7am and hit a 78-year-old man surnamed Wong who was crossing the road, Oriental Daily reported.

Wong hit the car hood and windshield and rebounded on to the road with a serious head injury. The driver did not stop his car, fleeing instead.

Wong, who was knocked unconscious, was sent to the hospital in a critical condition.

Police found at 10:30am in Yip Wo Street, near the scene of the crash. After checking surveillance camera footage, they found the driver was a South Asian man.

At 2pm, the South Asian man reported to Sheung Shui Police Station in regard to the accident. He was found to have a blood-alcohol level exceeding the prescribed limit during a breath test.

Police arrested the man for drink driving, allegedly dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
