seaman. voters in a republican dominated siouxland senate district are going to the polls today. jenna: the special election will fill the seat in senate district three, where republican bill anderson recently resigned to persue a business opportunity. that's our top story jenna: todd wendt-- a democrat from le mars-- and state rep. jim carlin -- a republican from sioux city-- are on the ballot. today's winner will serve the one year remaining on anderson's term. a win by carlin sets up another special election. his house district six seat would be up for grabs. jenna: according to woodbury county commissioner of elections pat gill there are about 23- thousand registered voters eligible to cast a ballot in todays special election... but only about 10 percent are likely to vote. still, the outcome could set up a race for a crucial seat in the republican- controlled house.. that is if carlin wins.

"this seat basically effectively doubles your influence in the process because now you're representing 60,000 people instead of 30,000 -- which helps you advocate -- gives you a stronger position to advocate from. and when you're in the house, you literally have to campaign 6-7 months every 2 years," says rep. jim carlin of sioux city. only polls in senate district three are open... until 9 p-m. for a full list of where you can find your polling place -- just head to our website at siouxland proud
