What began as a medical distress call at a townhouse in Malvern Tuesday afternoon ended in a homicide investigation.

Toronto Police say officers, firefighters and paramedics responded to the home on Empringham Dr., near Morningside and McLevin Aves., around 1:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a woman who was not breathing.

The 911 operator was instructing the caller on how to administer CPR when emergency crews arrived and found the woman with no vital signs, Const. David Hopkinson said Tuesday, adding she was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“A man was taken into custody and Homicide is now investigating,” he said.

No further details were immediately available in what is expected to deemed the city’s 60th slaying of the year.

But neighbours said it was the woman’s husband who was arrested.

“It’s not the first time police have been called to their house,” said one woman, who didn’t give her name.

Meanwhile, police have revealed that a 20-year-old man who was shot in Regent Park last month died in hospital Monday.

The city’s 59th murder victim of the year, identified as Kwsie Blair, was found suffering from gunshot wounds on Nov. 13 around 11:20 p.m. near Dundas St. E. and Parliament St. — a neighbourhood still plagued by violence despite a $1 billion revitalization effort.

Kwsie Blair, 20, was shot to death in Regent Park on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017.

No arrests have been made and no suspect description has been released.

Anyone with information regarding either of these investigations is urged to call the Homicide Unit at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
