INS Kalvari is regarded as a very prestigious acquisition. The submarine is designated as MDL Yard 11875 and its construction commenced at MDL on December 14, 2006.

The 'Boot Together' of the submarine, wherein the five separate sections were welded into one, was completed on July 30 2014. Interestingly it is the first Indian Naval vessel to be built using this modular approach of construction.

Kalvari was hauled out on Pontoon from the East Yard Dry Dock of MDL in the presence of the then Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar on April 6, 2015.

The submarine was 'launched' and christened as 'Kalvari' on October 27, 2015 by Ritu Shrawat, wife of then CMD, MDL, R Adm RK Shrawat (retd).

Kalvari was first put into sea on May 1, 2016. The submarine was delivered to the Indian Navy by MDL on September 21, 2017.

Kalvari is capable of undertaking offensive operations spanning across the entire spectrum of Maritime Warfare. It embodies cutting edge technology. It has an overall length of 67.5 metres and a height of about 12.3 metres.

Kalvari's undersea warfare capability includes a collection of advanced weapons and sensors whihc are integrated into the Submarine Tactical Integrated Combat System (SUBTICS)
