NOIDA: The district administration cancelled the licence of a cafe on Tuesday for illegally operating a hookah bar near Sector 18 Metro station.

Mahendra Singh, city magistrate, said that the administration had received an information that a hookah bar is being operated in Cafe 18 which is located in Savitri market. "We sent a team for inspection last month that found the information to be true. During the visit, the team found that some youngsters were consuming the stuff. After they filed the report, we cancelled the license of the cafe. We have asked the local police station to ensure that the cafe is shut down," said Singh.

An official from management of Cafe 18 said, "We stopped serving hookah to customers after a police team came for inspection last month."

In 2015, the district administration banned the sale of all forms of flavoured hookah in the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida, calling it a health threat to youngsters. Singh said that the administration would conduct raids at all such outlets that serve hookah to customers.
